Team:

The Altobridge management team have first-hand experience in the challenges involved in the deployment of rural wireless networks in emerging markets since the early 1990s. They have amassed unparalleled expertise in overcoming the technical challenges and devising innovative successful business models to connect the world’s unconnected communities. This extensive experience covers all key areas of wireless network deployment including direct hands-on experience designing, deploying and managing the deployment of wireless networks in countries all over the world.

Founders:

The Altobridge founders and management team are from both sides of the telecommunications industry i.e. the supply side (vendors) and the operating side (MNOs). The management team and R&D team within Altobridge have extensive senior management expertise internationally, working with leading communications companies such as Ericsson, Motorola, Pacific Bell, ADC Telecommunications, O2, Alcatel, interWAVE, Microcellular Systems, Cable & Wireless and GEC Avionics.

Principals:

The principals of Altobridge are also entrepreneurs who have a successful track record initiating start-ups, leading Management Buy Outs (MBOs), initiating joint ventures and completing trade sales. They have first-hand international business experience in sales, marketing, R&D and manufacturing across Asia, EMEA, the US and South America. They also have first-hand experience in bringing wireless solutions to market on time and within budget.

2008

Remote Community Solution. Altobridge combines its two award-winning technological innovations ‘Split Architecture’ and ‘Local Connectivity’, to make the delivery of mobile communications to small, remote enterprises and communities a compelling proposition for MNOs. This is the most operationally efficient communications solution for remote communications available on the market today.

2007

Altobridge announces its contract to license its patented Local Connectivity solution to Ericsson.

2007

Altobridge licences its software to Blue Ocean Wireless (BOW), an Irish company focused on expanding communication capability in the merchant maritime sector. Altobridge is also a major shareholder and investor of BOW alongside Smart (Philippines) and NTT DoCoMo (Japan). It is currently valued at USD 87m.

2006

Launch of Remote Contiguous Communications unit (RCC). Aimed at government/emergency personnel, this man-portable communications solution enables standard cellular communications anywhere, under any circumstances. It can provide services within five minutes of being deployed and is extremely versatile, and its man-portability means it can be inserted into the most difficult scenarios where other solutions cannot reach.

2005

Aeromobile, provider of communication services in aircraft, announces its contract with Altobridge:

“The proven Altobridge platform will be the link between our Inmarsat satellite access and onboard GSM mobile users,” stated Berit Svendsen, Telenor Chief Technical Officer. “As a recognized market leader, Altobridge’s commitment not only brings proven technology to the ARINC/Telenor mobile solution, but enhances its market appeal.”

Focusing on the use of legacy satellite technology for backhaul, Altobridge’s unique patented technology is behind the world’s first commercial flight offering GSM services to passengers via AeroMobile, with Emirates being the first airline to launch the service in March 2008.

2002

Following a global feasibility study, Altobridge was founded in 2002 by Mike Fitzgerald, CEO, Guy Waugh, COO and Bart Kane, CFO, to put in place an R&D team that could address the technical barriers that existed when connecting remote subscriber groups. To date, Altobridge has successfully designed, patented and brought to market key technology breakthroughs which have bridged this divide i.e. solutions which have cut the cost of connecting these ultra remote subscriber groups to the core telecommunications networks.
