Continuity in communications is expected in today’s world and the convenience of being able to do so with your own personal mobile device is becoming a prerequisite. Large yachts find themselves beyond the range of land based GSM coverage at sea and owners, guests and crew are unable to communicate efficiently. The Altobridge AM Gateway brings these individuals back into communications on their regular mobile devices.
Altobridge’s unique patented technology enables cellular coverage on yachts at sea, at affordable rates. It consists of a small GSM Picocell and a standard Linux server which runs the Altobridge proprietary software. Installation of the system on board is carried out by Altobridge’s partners on the ground, teams you are familiar with and teams who are experienced at installing electronics on board luxury yachts.
The cellular network on the yacht acts in the same way as a land based cellular network, e.g. charges for the voice, SMS and GPRS communication appears on the users own cellphone bill. The system is designed to avoid interference with land based cell phone networks. The onboard cellular network connects back to the land based cellular network via the yacht's existing satellite system. Multiple users can make or receive calls simultaneously.
